Composition:

Emily Magner, (Cork), has an M. Phil. in composition from University College Cork, where she tutored for a year. She was supervised by Dr. Marcus Zagorski and Mr. John Godfrey. In 2005, she graduated with a B. Mus., majoring in composition. She enjoys mixing musical genres and cultures in her original compositions. Poetry in the Irish language, and ancient literature, also provide inspiration for this composer. She also writes and arranges songs. She is currently a resident composer with the Composers in the Classroom Scheme, for the Cork International Choral Festival.

Her piece "Fionnán, mo leannán" was premiered recently at the 2011 Cork International Choral Festival, in the equal voice schools competition in Collins Barracks. She has also recently completed a commission for Cois Cladaigh, Galway, entitled 'Oíche Nollag' (2010). This is a four minute work, based on the words of Máire Mac an tSaoi’s poem of the same name.
She took part in the 2010 Irish Composition Summer School in DIT, where her work “Champagne” was performed by the Contempo String Quartet. She was commissioned in 2005 to write a 5-part choral piece for a female voice choir and piano and has both publicly and privately workshopped her pieces with professional musicians, such as Dublin’s The Bridgewood Ensemble (Release) and New Zealand’s William Lane (snooze). Two of her pieces have been performed at two Contemporary Music Centre Marathons in U. C. C. involving young composers (Gloria from Magner’s Mass 3’ 18’’ and Pumpkin), and one of her pieces was performed for Fiáin – a U. C. C. Music Department concert, (A Prayer For Tuesday) held in the Triskel Arts Centre, Cork, in 2004.

All her pieces are available for purchase. As a working composer, she gladly accepts commissions. You can contact her through myspace (www.myspace.com/emilymagner ) or this website.

Weddings:

As well as being a composer, she is an experienced soprano, having being a member of CSM Opera Workshop, Cantus Choralis (UCC School of Music) and Virelai – a four part soprano ensemble.

She also plays the cello, the piano and guitar for weddings with her sister Gemma, and friends. She also has access to a wide variety of other highly trained instrumentalists, from flautists, to violinists, to tenors.

She is available to sing and play for all church and civil ceremonies and drinks receptions in the Munster area. This would include piano, organ or guitar accompaniment.

Having performed at numerous wedding ceremonies and corporate events, from her local church to the RDS in Dublin and from the Honan Chapel in UCC to La Rochelle in France, she is very used to structuring and tailoring the musical programme to suit both the ceremony and the needs and wishes of the bride and groom.
